Ghostly white but weak tornado tracks 5km through Monkton area

On the afternoon of Sunday August 18, 1985, a series of thunderstorms developed over southwestern Ontario. Residents throughout Huron and Perth Counties observed funnel clouds developing under some of the storms. At about 3:45pm one of the funnels touched down WSW of the small town of Monkton. It tracked about 5km across the community causing sporadic damage along its path. Many trees were damaged, as well as a cornfield. Some houses sustained minor damage and an old meeting hall in poor repair was unroofed.
