No damage was caused by this rope tornado which was captured in photographs and on video by local residents.
Figure 1 shows the surface observations at 5:00 pm (time of the tornado), which shows a strong low pressure over northern Manitoba with a warm front extending across southern Ontario. This warm front triggered thunderstorms as it lifted north towards Barrie.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (2018), an F0 tornado touched down at 5:00 pm EDT near Thornton, ON. The track and width of the tornado was not documented by ECCC. The tornado caused no fatalities, injuries or property damage.
