Millbury, MA F0 Tornado of August 31, 1966

Worcester County


Figure 1 depicts the surface observations at 2:00 am EDT, which shows a stationary front across the Great Lakes. This front eventually moved south-southeast toward Massachusetts and helped initiate thunderstorms, which ultimately led to two tornadoes across the state in the afternoon hours of August 31st.

The Millbury, MA F0 tornado of August 31, 1966 impacted Worcester County in Massachusetts. According to NOAA (2019), the F0 tornado caused no fatalities , but injured one person and caused $250 dollars in property damage. The tornado touched down near Riverlin Street at 5:00 pm EDT. The tornado travelled for 1 mile and had a maximum width of 55 yards.
