Figure 1 depicts the surface observations at 6:00 am EDT, which shows a stationary front across southern Quebec and the Great Lakes. This front moved and became north to south oriented over Massachusetts throughout the day. This front helped initiate thunderstorms across the state throughout the afternoon hours, which ultimately led to this tornado.
The Sturbridge, MA F1 tornado of July 17, 1968 impacted Worcester County in Massachusetts. According to NOAA (2019), the F1 tornado caused no fatalities or injuries, but caused $2.5 thousand dollars in property damage. The tornado touched down near Wilbur Cross Highway at 6:30 pm EDT. The tornado travelled for 0.3 miles and had a maximum width of 17 yards.
