Figure 1 depicts the surface observations at 8:00 am EDT, which shows a cold front moving across the northeastern United States. This front became the focus for thunderstorms, which ultimately led to this tornado.
The Agawam, MA F1 tornado of October 3 , 1970 impacted Hampden County in Massachusetts. According to NOAA (2019), the F1 tornado caused no fatalities or injuries and the property damage was not documented by NOAA. The tornado touched down near School Street at 6:00 pm EDT. The path of the tornado was reported as 0 miles, but its width was reported as 17 yards.
