Figure 1 depicts the surface observations at 8:00 am EDT, which shows a cold front moving across the northeast United States. This front moved east throughout the day of August 22nd and triggered thunderstorms, which ultimately led to this tornado.

The Barnstable Municipal Airport, MA F1 tornado of August 22, 1977 impacted Barnstable County in Massachusetts. According to NOAA (2019), the F1 tornado caused no fatalities, but injured 2 people and caused $25 thousand dollars in property damage. The tornado touched down at the Barnstable Municipal Airport at 2:05 pm EDT. The tornado travelled for 0.1 miles and had a maximum width of 10 yards.
