Twin waterspout tornadoes spin over Lake Simcoe, residents watch from Beaverton
At around 8:00 pm on the evening of the August 9, a storm quickly pulsed and briefly took on supercell characteristics over the east side of Lake Simcoe. Two waterspouts spun up over the lake near Beaverton. Residents and boaters in the area captured photos and videos of the twin tornadoes which occurred close to the shoreline. This waterspout was the larger of the two, a needle-shaped tornado that lasted for several minutes. One photograph of the event suggests there may have been a third waterspout that occurred simultaneously, but this is difficult to confirm.

#onstorm #onwx Twins! Looks like the storm over Lake Simcoe produced multiple waterspouts at once. There’s at least 2 touching the water, but a third funnel cloud to the left of the picture could be another waterspout.

Looks like this may be the storm that produced the likely #tornado over the eastern part of Lake Simcoe earlier this evening. Some very tight rotation at the lowest radar angle, and looks like a supercell, but came and went very quickly. Very little lightning with these storms. pic.twitter.com/Cz3MWsb3Fd

The radial velocity couplet on the 1.5 deg King City radar tilt looks more convincing…though the couplet is located east of where the reflectivity pattern suggests it might be. Another unusual case in southern Ontario…imagine! 😉 pic.twitter.com/LaHag8DrIP
