Severe storms developed very early on May 9, 2023 and continued through most of the day.
My team and I were able to jump on a prolific hail producing storm near St. John, Kansas by late afternoon.
We dipped south into Pratt County to catch the next storm rolling our way. Radar indicated massive hail was likely in the storm – but we only encountered quarter sized hailstones, but a LOT of hail at that.
Our chase ended east of Pratt with a beautiful sky full of Mammatus as the sun set.
