Grassy Narrows First Nation, ON EF0 Tornado of August 5, 2014

Kenora - Nestor Falls


EF0 damage was caused as this waterspout moved ashore near Grassy Narrows First Nation, north of Kenora. At around 7:30 pm, witnesses observed the tornado develop over water and then move ashore. Residents reported moving indoors as the tornado approached land, then taking cover as rocks and gravel peppered their house and a corner of the roof was ripped off.

Figure 1 depicts the surface observations at 1:00 pm CDT, which shows a stationary front in northwestern Ontario and an ongoing thunderstorm (marked by a red ‘R’) in Grassy Narrows. This thunderstorm was responsible for this very brief tornado.
