Figure 2 depicts the surface observations at 8:00 am EDT, which shows a strong Category 4 Hurricane Gloria making landfall on the North Carolina coast. This hurricane was the cause of thunderstorm activity across Massachusetts on this day, which ultimately led to this tornado.

The Holliston, MA F1 tornado of September 27, 1985 impacted Middlesex County in Massachusetts. According to NOAA (2019), the F1 tornado caused no fatalities or injuries, but caused $250 dollars in property damage. The tornado touched down near Washington Street at 3:00 pm EDT. The tornado travelled for 0.1 miles and had a maximum width of 40 yards.
