Marblehead, MA F1 Tornado of July 21, 1962


Figure 1 depicts the surface observations at 2:00 am EDT, which shows a cold front slicing through the northeast United States. This front became the focus for thunderstorms in the afternoon hours, which ultimately led to this tornado.

The Essex County, MA F1 tornado of July 21, 1962 impacted Essex County in Massachusetts. According to NOAA (2019), the F1 tornado caused no fatalities, but caused 3 injuries and caused $25 thousand dollars in property damage. The tornado touched down in Essex County west of Canal Street at 7:00 pm EDT. The tornado travelled for 2.7 miles and had a maximum width of 33 yards.
