Massey, ON EF1 Tornado of July 18, 2013

Manitoulin - Blind River - Killarney


This EF1 tornado caused damage in the Massey area at 10:00 pm EDT, travelling along a path that was 800 metres long and 250m wide. It snapped and uprooted trees and caused minor structural damage near the town, about 85 km southwest of Sudbury.

Figure 1 shows the surface observations at 8:00 pm EDT, which shows a warm front moving northward across northern Ontario and a line of storms moving across Sault Ste. Marie and just north of Massey. This line of storms was responsible for this EF1 tornado in the late evening hours of July 18th.
