South Tea Lake, ON F0 Tornado of July 21, 1994

Trees were reportedly ‘sucked up’ by this tornado that touched down at 4:30 pm. This was one of two tornadoes to touch down in Central Ontario on July 21; the other was an F0 at Sand Lake, west of Algonquin Park.

Figure 1 depicts the surface observations at 5:00 pm EDT, which depicts a cold front extending across central/southern Ontario and over the Great Lakes. This front became the focus for thunderstorms in the late afternoon and ultimately led to the simultaneous tornadoes at Sand Lake and South Tea Lake near Algonquin Provincial Park.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (2018), an F0 tornado touched down at 4:30 pm EDT near South Tea Lake, ON. The width of the tornado was 20 metres, but the track was not documented by ECCC. The tornado caused no fatalities, injuries or property damage.
