Leoti, Kansas Tornado: May 21, 2016 — Bryce Kintigh

Forecasting for this day seemed pretty clear: Leoti, Kansas was our target. We kicked around dirt and played in the sunflowers until storms developed late in the afternoon. It was a hot, breezy, fairly typical Kansas afternoon.

This storm produced a couple of brief tornadoes, but the structure was the bigger story.

Bryce has been chasing storms since 2003. Growing up on a farm in North Central Kansas, weather has always played a big role in his life. In 2018, Bryce finished his Certificate of Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University. His favorite weather memory would have to be seeing a large wedge tornado with a satellite tornado in 2007. When Bryce isn’t on the road chasing storms, he enjoys spending time with friends, cheering on the Kansas State Wildcats, and traveling. He hopes to visit every National Weather Service radar site in the nation, visiting over 135 thus far. Bryce is often heard on KAKE-TV, tracking storms all across Kansas and the Midwest.
